Welcome to METTA Association

Metta Association is a nonprofit organization committed to advocacy and awareness for decriminalizing and destigmatizing that which concerns mental illness. Who also work toward reducing recidivism and helping formers inmates reintegrate into society.

Our Motivation

Metta Association’s purpose is to promote wellness and improvement related to issues of mental health, recidivism, and substance abuse.

Our interests are vast: we are interested in individuals, families, and communities, including layperson and professionals.

Metta Association utilizes advocacy, peer involvement, and community-driven solutions. We initiate a dialogue that moves into consumer and peer action in every arena, including legislation.

Wellness and mental health touch every individual and we want to help move people past the stigma so that healing can begin. While in no way exclusive, we see an urgent need for Metta Association's presence in the Black Community.

Metta Association does not speak for people instead we promote access for individuals to speak and control their narrative.

Our Mission

To advance human rights and diminish stigma via service, advocacy, education, and enlightenment thereby improving the community and individuals affected and impacted by mental illness.

Our Vision

Metta Association visualizes a community where persons impacted by mental illness have access to the services and resources necessary for their overall health, recovery, and quality of life.

Our Philosophy

We believe that you have to "open the door before you can open your arms." The betterment of individuals impacted by mental illness is attained through operating daily by these core values.

Our Core Values

  • Empowerment - Our clients have the right to participate and help guide their treatment and progress along their mental health journey.
  • Inclusion - Our clients have the right to respect, compassion, and excellent care regardless of their age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, economic status, or medical and/or mental health history.
  • Compassion - Our clients deserve kindness. Mental health impacts us all by virtue that we are ALL living this human experience.
  • Access - Our clients have the right to accessible and reliable mental healthcare resources.  Our guiding philosophy states " . . . .  open the door before you . . . open your arms." We at Metta Association concede this doctrine as mandated.
  • Building Commitment - It is our responsibility to the clients, their peers and relatives, and the communities we serve to endow our time, resources, and talents to the greater purpose of a mentally sound society.
  • Equality - Our clients deserve to be treated fairly. Human rights are our mission, our goal, and our 'bottom line.'
