Metta Association was founded by George Brooks, originally of Memphis, Tennessee, who was inspired to do the great work of philanthropy by instituting a non-profit agency emphasizing mental health wellness as he transitioned to the Dallas, Texas Metropolitan area. Metta Association is a grassroots organization and our bottom line is FundaMental Health - the psychological well-being of the communities we serve.
Metta Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that went into commission just at the start of the year 2020. Although we are relatively new, our efforts towards the advancement of marginalized communities have always been our priority and our growth relies greatly on endowments and the support of those understanding of the necessity of our services.
Metta Association’s purpose is to promote wellness and improvement related to issues of decreasing recidivism, mental health, and substance abuse recovery.
Our interests are vast: we are interested in individuals, families, and communities including both the layperson and professionals.
Metta Association will utilize advocacy, peer involvement, and community-driven solutions. We’d like to initiate a dialogue that moves into consumer and peer action in every arena, including legislation.
Wellness and mental health touch every individual and we want to help move people past the stigma so that healing can begin. While in no way exclusive; we see the need for us in the Black community. Metta Association does not speak for people instead we promote access for individuals to speak and control their narrative.
